Manchester City have taken the lead in the Manchester derby against Manchester United in the fourth round of the Premier League. This time it was Erling Haaland who found the net, although his goal has sparked major controversy.

The Norwegian forward found the back of the Manchester United net, but the referee immediately flagged for offside. The replay appeared to show that Haaland was indeed in an offside position when the pass was played, and the goal was initially ruled out.

However, the incident was referred to VAR for review. Following the video assistants' recommendation, the referee overturned his decision and awarded Haaland's goal. Manchester City therefore unexpectedly took the lead, despite the referee's initial verdict being the opposite.

The referee's decision has already raised questions, as even after the replays, Haaland's position looks far from clear. Nevertheless, the goal has officially been given, and the score in this fiercely contested encounter is now 1-0 to City.
