First since Ibrahimović! Aubameyang makes La Liga history
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang continues to make history with Deportivo. The 37-year-old forward has scored in each of his team's first five La Liga matches of the 2026/27 season. The Gabon international struck again in the fifth-round match against Getafe, setting a unique record.
According to MisterChip, only ten players before Aubameyang had scored in each of their club's first five matches in a single La Liga season. The last was Zlatan Ibrahimović for Barcelona in the 2009/10 season — 17 years ago. Aubameyang has now become the 11th player in the history of the competition to achieve the feat.
The Gabonese forward is also only the third player in Deportivo's history to score in the club's first five matches of a season. The previous players to do so were Pahiño in the 1954/55 season and Walter Pandiani in 2003/04. As a result, Deportivo are the only club represented by three players on this list.
Aubameyang began his scoring run in the opening round against Elche, then found the net against Málaga and Valencia, before scoring against Villarreal late in the fourth round to secure a 3-2 victory for his team. After his first four matches, the forward had four goals and two assists.
This is already Aubameyang's second spell in Spain. He previously played for Barcelona, having also represented Saint-Étienne, Milan, Dijon, Lille, Monaco, Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal, Chelsea, Marseille and Saudi Arabian club Al-Qadsiah. Aubameyang returned to La Liga with Deportivo after several years away and immediately became the team's main star.
