It was reported that Marseille police attacked Newcastle supporters without cause or warning, using excessive force with batons, shields, and pepper spray.
"As soon as the first group of fans was released, the police began to use unjustified and disproportionate force to prevent the rest of our supporters from moving forward. This was done using pepper spray, batons, and shields, with many fans subjected to indiscriminate assaults by the police," the statement read.
The Newcastle management has already appealed to UEFA to launch an investigation into the incident.
The match itself ended with a 2-1 victory for Marseille. After Barnes' goal, the hosts responded with a brace from Aubameyang.
