Barcelona's credit card is maxed out! Club still owes €115.8m for old signings
Barcelona's summer of galactico signings came with a familiar footnote: the club's books reveal a mountain of unpaid transfer bills.
Details: Barcelona's accounts as of June 30 show 115.8 million euros still owed to other clubs for signings. RB Leipzig are waiting on 34.4 million for Dani Olmo, Newcastle on 21.9 million short-term for Anthony Gordon plus nearly 47 million long-term, Leeds 19 million for Raphinha, Sevilla 12.3 million for Jules Kounde and Bayern 11 million for Robert Lewandowski.
The most telling detail involves the newest arrival. Barcelona were due to pay Newcastle 22.3 million euros for Gordon this past July, but treasury strain forced the payment to be deferred a full year to July 2027, according to Culemania. It is the same playbook that has defined the Laporta era: lever now, pay later. The Catalans still spent over 150 million this summer on Gordon, Adeyemi and Rodri, registering them just 48 hours before the season opener, all while carrying a total debt estimated above 1.6 billion euros. On the pitch, the gambles are working, Barca sit top of La Liga with a perfect record. Off it, the bill keeps growing, and someone else's money keeps the show running.
It's worth noting that the 2022 rebuild trio of Lewandowski, Raphinha and Kounde still account for over 40 million euros of the outstanding balance, three years after they arrived.
