Bail denied! Former Premier League bad boy Joey Barton to remain in custody until 2027 trial

Joey Barton's legal nightmare has deepened significantly after a judge ruled against his release.

Details: Former Manchester City and Newcastle United midfielder Joey Barton will remain remanded in custody until his criminal trial takes place in 2027. A formal bail application submitted by the legal team of the 44-year-old former footballer was firmly rejected by the court following recent preliminary hearings.

Barton was originally scheduled to stand trial last week on serious charges of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent. However, proceedings suffered an unexpected setback, and the full judicial trial has now been officially postponed until March of next year.

The allegations stem from a violent altercation in March at a golf club in Huyton and Prescot, where Barton allegedly assaulted Kevin Lynch. Lynch is well known in Merseyside non-league football circles, having previously served as the manager of Prescot Cables.

It is worth noting that throughout his turbulent professional playing career, Joey Barton made 269 Premier League appearances, scored 26 goals, received 78 yellow cards and 6 red cards, and earned one senior cap for the England national team.
