Manchester United are facing huge problems on the pitch right now, but equally worrying news is coming from the club offices, who are expressing concern over the club's financial affairs.

According to talkSPORT, a big blow to the Mancunians' budget is being dealt by the team's non-participation in the Champions League. It is about the prize money, which is much higher than in the Europa League, as well as penalties, which, for example, are prescribed in the contract with Adidas.

In a recent report, the club declared colossal losses of £245 million, which is £145 million more than allowed within the limits of financial stability and sustainability rules.

So far, the club has managed not to run into penalties due to other included spending by the club, such as the modernisation of the Carrington base or the partial refurbishment of Old Trafford, but future revenue losses, such as non-participation in the Champions League, could complicate matters.

As a reminder, we previously reported on the amount of penalty Manchester United would have to pay if Erik ten Hag is sacked as head coach early.
