Former Manchester United footballer Quinton Fortune has urged the club to consider sensational moves for Manchester City players should the Citizens potentially be relegated from the Premier League. The South African represented Manchester United from 1999 to 2006 and now believes INEOS should take advantage of the hypothetical situation surrounding City.

Alongside Haaland, the former player singled out defender Nico O'Reilly, midfielder Ryan Cherki, Marc Guehi and Elliot Anderson. "And if anything is left, I'll take Erling Haaland! I can't believe I mentioned all those names before Haaland!" Fortune said.

At the same time, he acknowledged that players moving directly from City to United could provoke a mixed reaction among the fans. A transfer for Haaland — one of the best strikers in modern football — would be particularly explosive. It was previously reported that Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Arsenal are also interested in the Norwegian.

The speculation was prompted by Manchester City's financial misconduct case. The club was found guilty by an independent commission of breaching financial fair play rules between 2009 and 2018 and has appealed the decision. Should the appeal fail, City could potentially face severe sanctions, up to and including expulsion from the Premier League.
