West Ham players could take a major financial hit if the club drops to a lower division.
Details: According to The Athletic, first-team players at West Ham United have a clause in their contracts that slashes their salaries by 50 percent if the club is relegated to the Championship.
It is reported that such clauses are traditionally included in player agreements, but the team's current position in the relegation zone is complicating negotiations with potential new signings in the winter transfer window.
It is noted that relegation could result in the club losing up to 75 percent of its financial revenue. West Ham have not played in the Championship since the 2011/12 season, when the team was relegated from the Premier League under Avram Grant.
As of now, West Ham sit 18th in the table, trailing the safety zone by seven points. Nuno Espírito Santo's side have lost 13 of their 21 league matches, with their last league win coming back on November 8 against Burnley.
Reminder: West Ham have made an official bid to Portuguese side Braga for Bright Arrey-Mbi.
