The joint bid by Italy and Turkey to host the 2032 European Championship is now hanging by a thread.

Details: UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin delivered an unprecedentedly stern warning to the Italian authorities during a recent interview. According to the official, the current state of football infrastructure in the country is among the worst on the continent. If the situation does not change soon, Italy will be removed from the list of host nations and the entire tournament could be moved to Turkey.

At present, only Juventus' stadium in Turin has passed UEFA’s full compliance inspection. Arenas in Rome, Milan (“San Siro”), Naples, and other candidate cities are either hopelessly outdated—having seen no major renovation since the 1990 World Cup—or mired in endless bureaucratic red tape.

The situation is further complicated by the fact that many projects still lack approved funding, while plans to build new stadiums, such as those for the Milan clubs, constantly hit administrative roadblocks.

UEFA’s position is crystal clear:

“Euro 2032 will take place—there is no doubt about that. But if the infrastructure is not ready, the tournament will not be held in Italy.”

Reminder: Napoli has found a replacement for Conte in case he takes over the Italian national team.
