Here we go! Strasbourg pull off a raid on Sevilla for their breakout star
The BlueCo project in Alsace is not slowing down. Strasbourg are about to add one of La Liga's most exciting young full-backs to their ranks, and Sevilla are losing a fan favorite on the final stretch of the window.
Details: According to Fabrizio Romano, RC Strasbourg have agreed a deal to sign Oso from Sevilla, here we go. The transfer is done at €10 million plus a 10% sell-on clause, the green light has been given to the move and formal steps will follow. The agreement between the clubs was first reported by Gonzalo Tortosa.
Oso, full name Joaquín Martínez Gauna, is a 23-year-old left-back from Torrevieja who only broke into Sevilla's first team in January 2026 and instantly became one of their brightest discoveries. In the 2025/26 La Liga season he made 21 appearances with two goals and three assists, and he has started the new campaign in style too, registering a goal and an assist in the opening two rounds. Comfortable further up the flank as a winger as well, he had attracted enquiries from Newcastle and Nottingham Forest earlier this summer, while Olympiacos explored a move in recent days. Sevilla, under financial pressure and unable to match his wage expectations with his contract running until June 2027, ultimately chose to cash in. For Strasbourg, owned by the BlueCo group that also controls Chelsea, this is another ambitious move in a busy summer that has already brought defender Karim Coulibaly from Werder Bremen for €20 million and striker Deivid Washington from Chelsea. Under Gary O'Neil, the Alsatians are clearly building a squad meant to challenge near the top of Ligue 1.
The Spaniard is expected to travel to France shortly to complete the formalities before the window shuts. It's worth noting that Strasbourg are paying exactly his current Transfermarkt valuation of €10 million, and Sevilla will keep 10% of any future sale, a clause that could prove valuable if Oso's rapid rise continues in France.
