Spanish football could stop completely! La Liga faces postponement after tragic death of Tenerife player
Spanish football could come to a complete halt this weekend following the tragic death of Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel! According to a new report, the next rounds of La Liga and the Segunda Division could be postponed as the country mourns the 30-year-old footballer who died after a collision during a league match.
Details: According to Gemma Santos of El Partidazo de COPE, as cited by Kalshi FC, the Spanish Footballers' Association (AFE) is working to secure the postponement of all league matches scheduled for the upcoming weekend. The initiative would affect both the top flight and the second division, although no official decision has yet been announced.
De Miguel passed away on November 3 after suffering a serious collision with Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono during Tenerife's Segunda Division match on Monday. The striker required emergency medical attention and was taken to hospital, where doctors were unable to save his life.
The Royal Spanish Football Federation has already postponed the Copa del Rey and Copa de la Reina fixtures scheduled for Tuesday. The federation also cancelled the presentation of Spain's Under-21 match against Japan as a mark of respect for the deceased player.
AFE expressed its deep sorrow over De Miguel's passing. The striker was also a member of the players' union board, making the loss particularly painful for the organisation. Whether the upcoming league rounds will be postponed remains uncertain, with the relevant authorities yet to confirm any changes to the weekend schedule.
Reminder: Spanish football was left in mourning after Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel died following a tragic incident during a Segunda Division match.
