Transfer scandal! Police investigate corruption involving Manchester City
A transfer completed five years ago has landed Manchester City and Partizan in the spotlight.
Details: According to Serbian outlet Sport Klub, the country's Criminal Police Directorate is examining the circumstances surrounding Filip Stevanović's transfer from Partizan to Manchester City in January 2021, amid suspicions of possible corruption in the deal.
According to the report, investigators visited Partizan's headquarters on Monday, November 2, requesting documents relating to the transfer. The Serbian club provided the requested paperwork, which officers subsequently collected for examination. Partizan president Rasim Ljajić confirmed the police visit but did not disclose details of the case.
The reported agreement was worth approximately €8 million, consisting of €6.5 million in guaranteed payments and another €1.5 million in potential bonuses. The deal was reportedly handled through the LIAN Sports agency, headed by Fali Ramadani. No findings establishing corruption in the transfer have been announced.
It is worth noting that Stevanović signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with Manchester City but never made a competitive appearance for the first team. He subsequently spent time with Heerenveen, Santa Clara and Lommel. According to Serbian media, the winger is currently without a club.
