“They are chewing over the case like gum.” Tebas hits back hard at Real Madrid over attacks on Barcelona

La Liga president Javier Tebas has launched a scathing attack on the leadership of Real Madrid, calling the club’s relentless pressure on Barcelona in the Negreira case unacceptable.

Details: The head of Spain’s top flight said he was convinced that the Spanish giants were deliberately slowing down the proceedings in order to keep the issue in the headlines and manipulate public opinion. The official urged everyone to wait for the investigative authorities’ final conclusions, stressing that the Spanish justice system is sovereign and independent of precedents set in other leagues.

Javier Tebas delivered an extremely harsh and emotional assessment of Real Madrid’s conduct:

“Real Madrid’s attacks on Barcelona over the Negreira case are unacceptable. Real Madrid is dragging out the case and chewing over it like gum. Barcelona will have to accept responsibility if necessary, but Barça cannot be blamed for anything right now because it is Real Madrid, not Barça, that is delaying the legal proceedings. Barça’s case has nothing to do with Manchester City’s case, and what happened to City cannot influence the justice system here. The decision must be made here, in Spain.”

It is worth noting that the so-called Negreira case has been under investigation for several years and concerns payments made by the Catalan club to José María Enríquez Negreira, the former vice president of Spain’s refereeing committee. The scandal has triggered a deep institutional crisis in relations between Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Reminder: Interest from Spain! Enzo Fernandez could leave Manchester City
