Yaya Fofana racks up goals in Ligue 2 and knocks on the door of Ivory Coast’s Elephants
The 22-year-old Ivorian midfielder has been in fine form since the start of the 2026-2027 season in the French second division, where he has been delivering a string of top-class performances.
In 11 appearances for Reims, the Ivorian has already scored nine goals and provided two assists. These are impressive statistics for a midfielder. Thanks to his clinical finishing, he currently tops the Ligue 2 scoring charts.
His performances could now open the door to a call-up for the Ivory Coast national team. The Elephants’ manager, Hervé Renard, is set to announce his squad for the double-header against The Gambia as part of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Having enjoyed a particularly prolific start to the season, Yaya Fofana could well be in line for his first call-up to the Elephants. It remains to be seen whether the French manager will decide to offer him this opportunity when he announces his squad, scheduled for Thursday 5 November.
