This weekend’s results underline the passion and unpredictability of African football, with fierce battles across the continent’s leagues.
Zambia
The Zambian Super League remains tightly contested, with just two points separating the top five teams. Leaders ZESCO United were held to a goalless draw by NAPSA Stars, extending their poor run with only two wins in their last 10 matches. Defending champions Red Arrows, in fifth, also drew 0-0 against Green Buffaloes. Meanwhile, bottom-placed Indeni FC secured their first win of the season, a 3-2 triumph over Zanaco, but remain firmly rooted at the bottom with six points.
DR Congo
In Linafoot’s Group B, AC Rangers retained their one-point lead over AS Vita Club after a 1-1 draw. Vita, with two games in hand, had their four-match winning streak snapped. Group A leaders St Eloi Lupopo extended their advantage with a 3-0 win over Panda 52, while TP Mazembe sit eight points behind but with three matches to catch up.
Tunisia
The Tunis derby between Esperance and Club Africain ended in a 2-2 draw, leaving Monastir at the top of Ligue 1 after a 1-0 victory over Soliman. Etoile Sahel recorded a commanding 3-0 win over JS Omrane, moving to sixth, level on points with Esperance.
Sierra Leone
The Premier League season kicked off with defending champions Bo Rangers losing 2-1 to Freetown City Council. Friday’s matches saw Luawa and Freetonians SLIFA claim narrow 1-0 victories.
Tanzania
Young Africans (Yanga) returned to league action with a resounding 4-0 victory over Tanzania Prisons, closing the gap to arch-rivals Simba SC to just one point.
