Next year will mark 60 years since England last hosted the World Cup—and, incidentally, their last triumph in the tournament. FIFA officials believe too much time has passed, and that football's greatest stage should return to its birthplace.

Details: FIFA vice president Victor Montagliani sees no obstacles to not only England, but the entire United Kingdom, becoming the next World Cup host. As a result, the local football association is encouraged to seriously consider submitting a formal bid.

Quote: “I see no reason why not just England, but the United Kingdom as a whole, shouldn’t host the World Cup. I believe it would be a fantastic tournament, and I think they should seriously consider putting themselves forward as hosts. We all know what this game means to the UK, and I think the time has come,” Montagliani told The Times.

Reminder: The last major tournament to be fully staged on English soil was Euro 1996. The UK, together with Ireland, will also co-host Euro 2028. England previously campaigned to host the 2006 and 2018 World Cups, but lost out to Germany and Russia, respectively.
