An unprecedented display of generosity! Infantino ready to unlock FIFA's billion-dollar reserves

Pressure from the leaders of the continental confederations has finally paid off.

Details: FIFA President Gianni Infantino has expressed his willingness to allocate additional funding to national football associations from the organisation's substantial cash reserves, which stand at six billion dollars.

According to The Athletic, the official sent a formal letter to all six confederation presidents, who also serve as FIFA vice presidents, as well as to members of the organisation's Council. Infantino was responding to the collective demands of UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin, CONCACAF president Victor Montagliani and Asian Football Confederation chief Sheikh Salman.

One of the key options under consideration involves a one-off payment of at least ten million dollars to each of the 211 national associations during the 2027–2030 financial cycle. Infantino stressed, however, that the distribution must be accompanied by strict financial oversight and full audit transparency. The final proposals will be compiled by FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafström and discussed at a meeting of the organisation's Council on October 15, 2026.

It is worth noting that Gianni Infantino has been at the helm of FIFA since February 2016, while the organisation's financial reserves reached record levels following the successful 2023–2026 four-year cycle.
