End of a €72 million nightmare! Juventus finally part ways with Arthur
One of the most infamous transfers in Juventus history is finally coming to an end.
Details: According to Fabrizio Romano, Juventus and Arthur Melo are set to part ways by terminating the contract on mutual agreement. The financial agreement is almost done after the Brazilian midfielder asked to leave to try a new chapter as a free agent.
Arthur arrived in Turin in 2020 as part of the infamous swap deal with Barcelona valued at €72 million plus add-ons, with Miralem Pjanić moving the other way. Six years later, the move is remembered as one of the worst exchanges in modern football: the Brazilian spent recent seasons on loan at Liverpool, Fiorentina, Girona and Grêmio, and has not played a single official minute for Juventus in the last four years.
The split makes sense for everyone: the midfielder's contract ran until June 2027 with a hefty salary of around €5 million net per year, money the Bianconeri will finally get off their books. The 30-year-old, meanwhile, gets the freedom to choose his next destination without a transfer fee. It's worth noting that Juventus open their Serie A campaign this Sunday away at Frosinone.
Reminder: Juventus set sights on two top European full-backs to boost Spalletti's flank.
