CAS to deliver Senegal-Morocco AFCON final ruling by end of November
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will deliver its decision on the dispute between Senegal and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and Morocco regarding the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final by the end of November 2026.
The tribunal confirmed this in a statement issued on Monday 19 October. Following the closed-door hearing held on 8 October in Lausanne, Switzerland, the arbitrators are continuing their deliberations. The official reasoned decision is expected before the end of November, the CAS states.
This procedure follows an appeal lodged by the Senegalese Football Federation. The Federation is challenging the decision of the CAF Appeals Committee, which stripped Senegal of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title and awarded it to Morocco.
On 18 January 2026, the Lions of Teranga had beaten Morocco on the pitch in the final. But following incidents during the match, the CAF Appeals Committee had annulled the result and declared Morocco the winner of the competition.
Senegal then referred the matter to the CAS to have this decision overturned and to have the result achieved on the pitch recognised. The verdict, expected in late November, will therefore be decisive in this highly controversial case.
