Championship beckoning? Manchester United repeat a failure unseen for 40 years
Manchester United produced an incredible finale in their Premier League Matchweek 10 clash with Aston Villa. The team fought back from a two-goal deficit to finish the game 4-4, scoring twice in stoppage time. Zirkzee struck in the 90+2nd minute, before Dorgu salvaged a point for the hosts in the 90+6th.
According to Opta, Manchester United became the first team in Premier League history to come from two goals down and level the score twice in the same match. In addition, the Red Devils became only the sixth team in the Premier League era to rescue a draw after trailing by two goals at the start of stoppage time.
However, there is little for the fans to celebrate. Manchester United are guaranteed to spend at least 15 days in the relegation zone. The club have not endured such a prolonged spell in the bottom three since September–October 1986, when the run lasted 28 days.
There is another historic unwanted record: Manchester United became the first top-flight English side since the 1953/54 season to win just once in their opening 10 games after finishing in the top three the previous campaign. Arsenal were the last team to suffer the same fate.
