A dramatic comeback and a missed penalty! Kaizer Chiefs reach the Carling Knockout semi-finals
Kaizer Chiefs defeated Siwelele 2-1 in the Carling Knockout Cup quarter-finals to book their place in the semi-finals.
The visitors made the brighter start and opened the scoring in the 11th minute through Ndebele. Kaizer Chiefs had a chance to level before the break, but Shabalala failed to convert from the penalty spot. However, in the second minute of first-half stoppage time, Duba finally found the net from 12 yards to make it 1-1.
Siwelele refused to give up and continued searching for a winning goal. But in the 84th minute, Velebayi scored the decisive goal of the match. The visitors could not avoid defeat as Kaizer Chiefs held on to their lead and secured their place in the next round.
It is a special achievement for the club: the team have reached the Carling Knockout semi-finals for the first time since 2019. Four of the tournament’s strongest sides will now battle for a place in the final — Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns and Stellenbosch.
