Catalan giants Barcelona have made a definitive decision to pull out of the race for young Cameroonian striker Etta Eyong.
Details: According to Diario SPORT, although the club closely monitored Etta Eyong’s progress at Levante and his performances at the Africa Cup of Nations, the financial aspects of the potential deal became a major obstacle. While last summer he could have been signed for a symbolic fee, his current contract now includes a €30 million release clause—an amount the Blaugrana consider excessive.
The club’s management acknowledges the talent of the 22-year-old Cameroonian, but is now shifting focus to signing a more experienced, world-class striker. Should Robert Lewandowski depart this summer, Barcelona is determined to bring in a marquee player capable of making an immediate impact at the highest level. The Catalans’ top dream remains Julián Álvarez from Atlético Madrid, for whom the club is ready to stretch its wage cap to the limit.
Etta Eyong’s camp has already been informed of Barcelona’s stance and has begun exploring alternative options. Although the striker had prioritized a move to Catalonia, his future now looks set to be linked with the English Premier League. Several British clubs have already expressed their willingness to meet the release clause, and the transfer is expected to go through in the summer window without Barcelona’s involvement.
Notably, this season the Cameroonian has featured in nineteen matches for Levante across all competitions, notching six goals and three assists. Transfermarkt currently values him at €20 million.
Reminder: Barcelona forward Ferran Torres has fully recovered from injury and will be available to face Copenhagen.
