Arminia's fairytale ends as Stuttgart clinch first German Cup in 28 years

On Saturday, May 24, the German national cup final took place. Sensational Arminia faced off against Stuttgart in Berlin.
The club from Bielefeld became the tournament’s biggest revelation, knocking out several top-flight sides as a representative of the third division. Among their victims was the reigning cup holder, Bayer Leverkusen.
Stuttgart were the obvious favorites, and it came as no surprise when the intrigue was killed off in the first half. Goals from Millot, Vagnoman, and Undav dashed any hopes Arminia harbored. After the break, Millot bagged a brace to push the scoreline to a rout. Arminia managed two consolation goals, but there simply wasn’t enough time to spark a comeback. In the end, it finished 2-4—a Stuttgart victory.
It’s worth noting that along with the cup, Stuttgart secured a spot in the Europa League. This German Cup triumph marks the Swabians’ fourth in history and their first since 1997. Incidentally, it’s the club’s first major trophy since their stunning Bundesliga title in 2007.
