It's all about the media.

Details: In his legendary interview with Piers Morgan, the 40-year-old Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo, who currently plays for Saudi club Al-Nassr, revealed the reason behind his absence at the funeral of his Portugal national teammate Diogo Jota:

"There are two reasons. After my father's death, I have never been to a cemetery again.

Secondly, if you know me... wherever I go, it instantly becomes a circus. All the attention would be on me, and I didn't want that to happen." Ronaldo admitted.

Ronaldo does not consider his absence at Diogo's funeral to be a sign of disrespect—on the contrary, he sees it as a way to honor Jota's memory.

Ronaldo and Jota played together for the Portugal national team, becoming key architects of two Nations League triumphs in 2019 and 2025.

Currently, Ronaldo is playing for Saudi club Al-Nassr, having joined in 2023, and recently signed a new contract extending his stay until 2027.
