Scandal! Al-Ittihad humiliate Ronaldo after victory over Al-Nassr
Al-Ittihad made sure Cristiano Ronaldo's painful night did not end with the final whistle.
Details: After beating Al-Nassr 2-1 in the Saudi Pro League, Al-Ittihad's official English-language account took a brutal swipe at Cristiano Ronaldo on social media. The club published an image from the match showing the Portuguese forward alongside Danilo Pereira and added the provocative caption:
“Cheating and still losing!”
The mockery referred to a curious episode late in the game. A tactical note was sent from the Al-Ittihad bench to defender Danilo Pereira, and Ronaldo was caught on camera moving closer and trying to glance at what was written on the paper. Danilo noticed his compatriot's attempt, and the pair eventually reacted to the situation with smiles.
Al-Ittihad nevertheless used the moment to troll the Al-Nassr captain after securing all three points in Jeddah. Their post quickly attracted attention because of the unusually direct wording aimed at one of the biggest stars in world football.
On the pitch, George Ilenikhena was the hero for Al-Ittihad. The forward scored twice inside the opening 22 minutes, putting the hosts 2-0 ahead. Ângelo Gabriel reduced the deficit for Al-Nassr in the 36th minute, but Ronaldo and his teammates were unable to find an equaliser.
It is worth noting that the 2-1 defeat ended Al-Nassr's perfect start to the Saudi Pro League campaign. The Riyadh club had won each of its first four league matches before running into Al-Ittihad.
