Can Cyprus turn pressure into goals against a depleted Armenia? Cyprus vs Armenia prediction - 02.10.2026
On Friday, October 2, Cyprus will host Armenia at the GSP Stadium in Nicosia in the third round of UEFA Nations League Group C2. Kick-off is scheduled for 19:00 local time. The hosts have collected only one point from their opening two matches, while Armenia sit second with three points, behind Montenegro on six. With the group already beginning to take shape, this is an important opportunity for both teams to stay involved in the promotion race.

Cyprus: the performances are improving, but the finishing is not
Apostolos Mantzios' side started the Nations League with a frustrating 2-1 defeat away to Montenegro. Cyprus actually took the lead through Marcus Edwards, but conceded a penalty before Milutin Osmajić scored the winner late in the game.
The performance against Latvia was considerably more encouraging, even though the game ended 0-0. Cyprus controlled 67% of possession and registered 18 attempts, while Edwards twice struck the woodwork. Mantzios admitted afterwards that one point from the opening two rounds was not enough, but stressed that his team had dominated in Riga and created enough opportunities to win.
Edwards has immediately become one of the key attacking figures after receiving his first Cyprus call-up in September. Grigoris Kastanos remains the main creative presence between the lines, while Ioannis Pittas gives the hosts a physical focal point up front. The biggest concern is efficiency: Cyprus have produced dangerous spells in both Nations League matches but have scored only once.
Mantzios has also had to deal with defensive personnel problems. Konstantinos Laifis and Christos Shelis were carrying injuries at the start of the camp and neither featured in the opening two group matches.
Armenia: goals are coming despite major absences
Armenia opened their campaign with a convincing 2-0 home victory over Latvia before suffering a dramatic 3-2 defeat against Montenegro. Yeghishe Melikyan's team recovered from being behind twice in that second match, with Artur Serobyan and Eduard Spertsyan finding the net, only to concede the decisive goal in the closing stages.
The visitors therefore arrive in Nicosia with four goals from their opening two Nations League matches. Spertsyan remains the team's main creative reference, with Nair Tiknizyan providing attacking energy from the left and Ugochukwu Iwu adding physicality in midfield.
Melikyan does, however, have a lengthy injury list. Vahan Bichakhchyan, Grant-Leon Ranos, David Davidyan, Kamo Hovhannisyan and Norberto Briasco Balekian were among the players ruled out of this international window through injury. Despite those absences, Armenia have shown that they can still create and score against opponents at this level.
Probable lineups

Cyprus should create more at home, but Armenia carry enough attacking threat: prediction
The 0-0 scoreline in Riga does not fully reflect Cyprus' performance. Mantzios' team created chances, controlled possession and were denied by the woodwork twice. Back in Nicosia, they should again play proactively, especially with Edwards, Kastanos and Pittas available in the attacking third.
Armenia are weakened by injuries, but their first two matches showed that Melikyan's team still have enough quality to punish defensive mistakes. Spertsyan is capable of creating something from very little, while Tiknizyan and Serobyan give the visitors additional routes into the final third.
Cyprus need to take more risks after collecting only one point, while Armenia have already scored four times but looked vulnerable against Montenegro. With the historical head-to-head record also pointing towards goals at both ends, an exchange of goals looks like an attractive scenario.
Prediction: Both teams to score — Yes.
