Mourinho receives huge boost! Real Madrid star ready to reclaim his place in starting XI
Real Madrid could be about to receive a massive defensive boost! After months of frustration and rehabilitation, Éder Militão is reportedly close to reclaiming his place in José Mourinho's starting eleven.
Details: According to Madrid Zone, citing journalist Jorge Picón, the feeling surrounding Militão's recovery inside Real Madrid is extremely positive. The Brazilian defender is expected to return to the starting lineup soon, although no specific match has been confirmed. His progress represents excellent news for Mourinho, whose team have struggled with injuries and defensive instability during the opening months of the season.
Militão suffered a serious left hamstring injury in April 2026 and subsequently underwent surgery. He spent several months recovering before returning to group training at the end of September. The defender finally made his competitive comeback against Sevilla on October 18, appearing as a substitute during Madrid's convincing 4-1 victory.
Now the next challenge is securing a regular starting position. Militão will compete with Antonio Rüdiger, Dean Huijsen and Ibrahima Konaté for a place in central defence. His experience, physical strength and recovery speed could offer Mourinho additional tactical flexibility.
The timing is particularly important. Madrid face RB Leipzig in the Champions League on October 21 before preparing for El Clasico against Barcelona on October 25. Although Militão's return to the starting eleven appears increasingly likely, the coaching staff must still assess his fitness before committing to a full match.
It's worth noting that Militão wears the number 3 shirt and has been available for selection since the Sevilla match. The reported optimism does not mean his starting position or appearance in El Clasico has been officially confirmed.
Reminder: Finally! Real Madrid leader returns after a serious injury.
