On Friday, February 6, the opening ceremony of the 2026 Winter Olympic Games will take place in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, and already the following day, February 7, the first sets of medals will be awarded.
A total of 116 medal events will be contested at the Olympics, with athletes from 93 countries competing across 16 sports. These Games will be the first in history to be officially hosted by two cities. In addition, for the first time since the Sarajevo Olympics, the opening and closing ceremonies will be held in different locations.
Italy will see the Olympic debut of a new sport — ski mountaineering. The Milan–Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics will run until February 22, with the final medal events and the closing ceremony serving as the culmination of the Games.
