In the Round of 64 of the Coupe de France, Le Puy-en-Velay faced Montpellier—the 2011/2012 French champions. Although Montpellier has been struggling in recent times, they remain a Ligue 1 side.
However, the final result stunned everyone: the amateurs not only won but did so decisively, delivering a 4-0 thrashing.
The underdogs scored once in the first half, but in the final 15 minutes, Montpellier’s net was breached three more times.
It is worth noting that the Ligue 1 representative did not field a fully first-choice lineup. Nevertheless, several players who regularly start in France's top division were on the pitch.
