The Hammers accuse the Congolese Football Federation of holding the player back for celebrations following qualification for the World Cup.

A standoff is unfolding between West Ham and the governing body of Congolese football. Several clubs had spoken out to condemn the retention of their players by the national team following the decisive victory against Jamaica on 31 March.

But after the rhetoric, West Ham has taken action against its 28-year-old defender. According to The Athletic, the English club lodged a complaint with FIFA after Aaron Wan-Bissaka failed to return for the FA Cup quarter-final against Leeds United. The Hammers claim they had not authorised the player to remain in the DR Congo to celebrate qualification for the World Cup.
