Investigation launched into possible match-fixing at the FIFA World Cup

The 2026 FIFA World Cup has already come to an end, but a scandal surrounding potential match-fixing could now be emerging.

Details: According to RMC Sport, an investigation into possible match-fixing could soon be launched.

According to a Council of Europe report, several incidents were deemed suspicious. One such suspicious moment was the red card shown to Themba Zwane in the match against Mexico. There were also bets worth more than $4.5 million placed on a draw between Spain and Cape Verde before the match even began, as well as a nearly four-minute VAR review that resulted in Ferran Torres' goal against Saudi Arabia being disallowed.

However, FIFA says it has found no evidence that sports betting influenced any of the World Cup matches.
