Football should never cross paths with politics.

Details: Today, the management of Werder Bremen announced that the team has officially canceled its summer tour to the United States due to the policies of the immigration service ICE, which recently shot and killed two individuals.

Werder referenced recent incidents in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where several people were shot after refusing to comply with ICE demands. The club stated it does not want to visit cities where authorities are killing people:

"In Minnesota, two people were shot by state authorities.

Playing in a city where unrest and shootings are taking place does not align with our values. That’s not something we can accept." the statement reads.

The Werder management is also concerned that not all players will be allowed to enter the USA due to new immigration service rules:

"It's impossible to predict which players will be granted entry into the United States because of stricter entry requirements, which now include checking social media profiles for the past five years."

Werder was expected to play two friendly matches in Minnesota and Detroit, likely in May this year, but it is now clear those games will not take place.

At the moment, Werder sits 16th in the Bundesliga, fighting for survival with just 19 points after 22 matchdays.

Reminder: James Rodríguez has shaken off ICE pressure and can now play for Minnesota
