The tension between Salah and the Liverpool legend is reaching a boiling point.
Details: On today's live broadcast of Monday Night Football, 47-year-old former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher didn't hold back his emotions or words when addressing 33-year-old Liverpool and Egypt midfielder Mohamed Salah, who had openly voiced his dissatisfaction with the way the team was treating him:
"I want to remind Mohamed Salah and, perhaps, his agent of one thing... Before he came to Liverpool, Mo Salah was known as the player who flopped at Chelsea. That's just a fact." Jamie declared.
Carragher also believes the incident is a calculated move by Salah and his agent:
“I thought it was a disgrace with what he did... I think when he stops in the mixed zone, it’s choreographed with him and his agent to cause maximum damage and strengthen his position."
Carragher didn't stop there—he went after Salah's performances for the Egyptian national team, claiming Egypt actually play better without him:
"He is also the greatest player this country has ever had. Egypt is the most successful nation in the Africa Cup of Nations. But Salah has NOT won AFCON."
Previously, Salah had claimed that his game took Liverpool to a new level and that his dedication and loyalty were key to the team's success. Carragher, however, sees things differently:
"I'm not trying to diminish him as a player, but this is for Mo Salah and his agent—that it's not about one individual. You weren't a star when you arrived at Liverpool.
No matter how good you are, you need the help of teammates, the coach, and the fans. It's important he remembers that. When he speaks, it's always about 'me, me, me!'"
"I’ve never gone for Mo Salah when he’s on the pitch — I will go for Mo Salah when he throws my club under the bus.” added Carragher.
At one point, Carragher lost his train of thought and asked a journalist:
Have I ever criticized Mo Salah on the pitch?
Reply: Well, a couple of weeks ago you said his legs were gone…
It’s clear that the relationship between Salah and Liverpool has completely deteriorated. The Egyptian couldn’t handle the wave of criticism and refused to stay silent, sparking a storm of controversy.
This season, Salah has played 19 matches for the Reds, scoring 5 goals and providing 3 assists.
His current contract with Liverpool runs until the summer of 2027, but all indications suggest the Egyptian will leave Anfield much sooner.
