Catastrophic start to the season. First La Liga managerial sacking on the cards
Valencia head coach Carlos Corberán is under serious pressure after the team's disastrous start to the new season. After five La Liga matches, the club have picked up just one point and suffered four consecutive defeats, putting the manager's position under threat.
The latest setback came against Sevilla. Valencia held on to a draw for a long time, but Juan Iglesias' goal nine minutes before the final whistle secured victory for the hosts. Following the defeat, Spanish media began reporting on the possibility of Corberán being sacked.
AS reports that the Spaniard may have taken charge of one of his final matches with the team. Corberán, however, remains determined to continue in his role despite the growing pressure.
“I know my responsibility, which is to win matches. I fully understand that when we don't win, it means we haven't achieved our objective,” the manager said.
The coach will have an opportunity to turn the situation around as early as Tuesday, when the team's next opponents will be Alavés. However, another dropped point could bring Corberán's time as Valencia head coach to an end.
