First managerial sacking of the season. La Liga club officially dismisses head coach
Valencia have made the first major managerial decision of the new La Liga season. The club have announced the dismissal of head coach Carlos Corberán and sporting director Ron Gourlay. The Spanish side have already appointed an interim manager, with reserve-team coach Óscar Sánchez set to take charge of the first team.
Corberán's dismissal came as a surprise, given that Valencia had extended his contract until June 2028 just two months ago. However, the coach had been under serious pressure following a heavy 5-0 defeat by Barcelona, the setback in La Coruña and a 1-0 defeat by Sevilla.
The club have also decided to end their cooperation with Gourlay and members of his staff. The Scottish executive had previously backed Corberán's contract extension and described him as the right person to develop Valencia's sporting project.
While Valencia work on a new sporting structure, Óscar Sánchez will prepare the team for their upcoming match against Alavés, which will take place in Vitoria on Tuesday. The team's next game will be against Real Sociedad at Mestalla on 21 September.
