The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) has voted to submit a formal request to UEFA demanding that Israel be suspended from participating in tournaments held under the umbrella of the European football union, according to ESPN.
The proposal was put forward by Irish club Bohemians and received a clear majority, surpassing the required minimum of 50% delegate support. The next UEFA Executive Committee meeting is set for December 3 in Nyon, where the issue could be addressed officially.
Previously, UEFA's plans to discuss the potential exclusion of Israel from European competitions were put on hold following a peace initiative proposed by US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
In its statement, the FAI also emphasized the need for transparency in such matters, calling on UEFA to publish unified criteria for the suspension or exclusion of national associations to ensure equal treatment for all member organizations.
