Virgil van Dijk has long been a key figure for Liverpool and has earned the captain’s armband. With his contract set to expire at the end of this season, the club is prepared to begin negotiations for an extension.

Details: According to Nicolo Schira, Liverpool is keen to keep van Dijk beyond the current season and does not want to lose their defensive leader. While the exact terms the Merseyside club plans to offer are still unknown, the Dutchman himself is reportedly aiming for a contract that runs at least until 2027.
At 33 years of age, van Dijk seems content to stay at the club, with the possibility of even ending his career at Anfield.

Reminder: Virgil van Dijk joined Liverpool in 2018 from Southampton for a fee of €84.7 million. Since then, he has made 276 appearances for the club, scoring 24 goals.
In addition to van Dijk, Liverpool boasts other notable central defenders, including Ibrahima Konaté, Joe Gomez, and Jarell Quansah. However, should van Dijk leave, the club would likely begin the search for a new defender next summer.
Currently, van Dijk’s contract is valued at €30 million, and if he fails to agree on an extension with Liverpool, he could attract significant interest from other clubs as early as this winter.
