Elite One: Patrice Noukeu steps down as Canon Sportif head coach

The Cameroonian coach is reported to have submitted a letter of resignation to the club’s management.

According to the Cameroonian media outlet Foot IA, Patrice Noukeu has decided to step down amid several tensions within the club. A few weeks ago, the Cameroonian coach took legal action against Canon Sportif through his lawyers to claim payment of outstanding wages and signing bonuses. The amount claimed is said to exceed 10 million CFA francs.

This situation is said to have compounded the tensions that have arisen in recent weeks between Noukeu and the club’s management. Recent comments made by Canon Sportif’s managing director directed at the coach are also said to have contributed to the deterioration in relations.

Patrice Noukeu’s resignation, if officially confirmed, therefore comes against a backdrop of tension within the Yaoundé-based club. For the time being, Canon Sportif has not issued any statement regarding the coach’s possible departure.

This potential departure comes as the club prepares for the new season of the Cameroonian professional league.
