Jurgen Klopp didn't take long to find a new challenge after leaving Liverpool. This week he signed a contract with Red Bull and will become the global head of football in their football system.
Various media outlets have begun revealing the details of his contract, including his salary, which, while substantial, does not quite reach the level he was earning at Liverpool.
Details: Starting January 1, 2025, Klopp will take up his new role within the Red Bull football structure and will reportedly earn between £8.3 million and £10 million per year, according to Sky Sport Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg. While this figure is impressive, it falls short of the approximately £15 million he was receiving at Liverpool.
In his new position, Klopp will advise Red Bull’s clubs on coaching matters, playing philosophy, development strategies, player transfers, and the hiring of head coaches.
Quote: “After almost 25 years away, I couldn't be more excited about the opportunity to be part of such a project," Klopp said upon the announcement of his appointment.
Reminder: Klopp's salary isn’t the only perk of his contract with Red Bull. It's been reported that the agreement includes a clause allowing early termination should he wish to take over the German national team.
Recently, the sporting director of the German national team, Rudi Völler, stated that Klopp would be their only choice if current coach Julian Nagelsmann decides to step down:
“If at some point Julian Nagelsmann decides he wants to return to managing a top club, then, of course, there will be no other option but Jurgen Klopp, if he wants it.”
