After suffering a second consecutive defeat in the European Championship final, Gareth Southgate stepped down as head coach of the England national team. It's been almost a year since he went on sabbatical, but now he's looking to make his return to the dugout.
Details: According to Przegląd Sportowy Onet, Southgate has personally offered his services... to the Polish Football Association, which parted ways with their head coach Michał Probierz just a week ago.
However, the chances of the Englishman taking charge of the Biało-Czerwoni are slim. Firstly, it's a matter of salary. While coaching England, Southgate earned five million pounds a year—more than twice as much as the highest-paid coach in Poland’s history, Fernando Santos (2–2.5 million euros).
Additionally, Polish FA president Cezary Kulesza wants the new coach to get to work immediately, without spending time scouting players. Most likely, the next boss of the national side will be a Polish coach, but Kulesza emphasizes that anything can happen.
Reminder: Southgate managed the England national team from 2016 to 2024. Under his leadership, the Three Lions played 102 matches, winning 64, drawing 20, and suffering 18 defeats.
