The Polish football community is currently rocked by a major scandal, which has escalated into Robert Lewandowski refusing to play for the national team. Even the country’s top officials were prepared to step in and solve the crisis.

Details: According to Jan Grabiec, head of the prime minister’s office, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk was ready to comment on the scandal, but soon changed his mind. The reason wasn’t political—despite FIFA and UEFA’s strong dislike for political interference in football—but a simple desire not to further inflame an already tense situation.

Quote: “For a while, the prime minister considered making a statement on the matter. But in the end, he decided it would be better to keep things quiet around this situation. This isn’t about politics—the national team could simply use some peace in these turbulent times,” Grabiec told TVN24.

Reminder: At a press conference ahead of the match against Finland, national team head coach Michal Probierz said that the decision to strip Lewandowski of the captain's armband was his own, even though Robert had asked him to announce that he had voluntarily given up the captaincy.
