Robert Lewandowski is putting his international career with Poland on hold. The 36-year-old striker made the announcement on his social media. The Barcelona forward declared that he will no longer play for the Polish national team as long as Michał Probierz remains in charge.
I have decided to step back from playing for the national team under the current coach. This decision is due to the current circumstances and a loss of trust. I hope that one day I’ll be able to take the field again in the national jersey for the best fans in the world,
It has also been revealed that the head coach has stripped the Barcelona striker of the captain’s armband. The role will now be carried out by Inter midfielder Piotr Zieliński.
Let’s recall, Robert has represented Poland since 2008, earning 158 caps and scoring 85 goals—both all-time records for the national team. Michał Probierz has been the national team’s head coach since September 2023.
