The 1-2 defeat to Finland was a logical outcome of the series of scandals rocking Poland’s national football team. Head coach Michał Probierz took full responsibility for the decision to strip team leader Robert Lewandowski of the captain’s armband, but he remains unwilling to take any drastic action.

Details: Probierz stated that he has no intention of stepping down, confident in his ability to overcome the team’s current issues—challenges he’s faced more than once in his coaching career.

Quote: “I realize this is painful, but I absolutely have no intention of resigning or anything like that. I’ve been in football for so many years and have lived through all sorts of situations. This is normal, too. A coach signs a contract with his right hand and holds his suitcase in his left—that’s life, but I never give up. I believe we’ll get through this, if I’m allowed to,” Probierz said at a press conference.

The president of the Polish Football Association, Cezary Kulesza, expressed a slightly different view. On his X account, he announced that he would summon Probierz for a one-on-one conversation about their future cooperation.

Recall: Before the match against Finland, Probierz decided to take the captain’s armband away from Lewandowski, who in response announced he would no longer play for the national team as long as Probierz remains in charge.
