Orlando Pirates midfielder Makhehleni Makhaula: I will retire when I have won the Betway Premiership title as I pray for that medal
Makhehleni Makhaula has revealed his deepest wish in football.
The Orlando Pirates midfielder work-horse does not want to retire without a PSL medal on his neck and in his trophy cabinet.
Makhaula turns 37 this year and indications are that it may be his last season at Pirates and he hopes it can be the one which gives him a chance to be a league winner.
“Only God knows [When I will retire]. I'm always praying because my wish is [to win] the league. We will see maybe this season it can happen but hopefully," said the former AmaZulu midfielder.
Pirates have Thalente Mbatha, Sipho Mbule, Sihle Nduli and Cemran Dansin in Makhaula’s position which means given his age he must always triple his effort when in the starting line-up.
"I think the young guys always want to challenge me each and every time, even during training, and then you know when I try to take things easy, they come hard on me always," said Makhaula.
"So, I just have to keep myself fit and eat well so that you can see me all the time, and that I'm still running. So, they motivate me too much. So I'm learning a lot from them, and they’re also learning a lot from me," Makhaula said about the motivation from the young players."
This evening they face Magesi FC in a Betway Premiership match at Orlando Amstel Arena.
That match starts a 6pm.
