Newest technologies. In a Serie A match, the referees communicated with the VAR via mobile phone

Yesterday, the nineteenth round of Italy's Serie A witnessed a match where Frosinone hosted Monza on their home turf.
Towards the end of the first half, referee Maria Sole Ferreri Caputi unexpectedly halted the match briefly for reasons undisclosed. The game resumed after a few minutes, leaving many wondering about the pause. It later transpired that the interruption was linked to VAR after Monza scored a goal.
The issue stemmed from glitches in the VAR room, initially preventing the review of the slowed-down replay. Moreover, on-field officials couldn't establish communication with their VAR counterparts, prompting a member of the VAR team to contact the fourth official to confirm the goal as per the regulations.

Technical difficulties persisted into the second half, forcing the stadium announcer to declare that the game was proceeding without VAR. Eventually, the issue was resolved, and the announcer promptly informed the fans that the technology was back in operation.
As a result, Monza secured a 3-2 victory over the hosts, further intensifying Frosinone's concerns about potential relegation from Serie A.
