Napoli have secured their captain for the long haul: Giovanni Di Lorenzo has put pen to paper on a new deal until June 2030.

Details: Fabrizio Romano confirms the captain has signed his new contract. A verbal agreement was reached back on August 11, and the signatures have now made it official, extending his previous deal which ran to 2028.

At 33, Di Lorenzo has become the face of modern Napoli. Signed from Empoli in 2019 for around €8 million, he has passed 300 appearances for the club, lifted two Serie A titles as a leader, including the historic 2022/23 Scudetto that ended a 33-year drought, plus the Coppa Italia and the Supercoppa Italiana. Handed the armband in 2022 after the departures of Insigne and Koulibaly, he admitted this summer that he wants to finish his career in Naples, calling the club his home. That loyalty has been tested before: in 2024 he pushed for a move to Juventus before staying, and last season he remained an ever-present with 26 Serie A appearances, 2 goals and 1 assist. The new deal takes him to 37 and all but guarantees he retires a Partenopei icon.

It's worth noting that Di Lorenzo has captained Napoli in every Serie A match of the new season so far, with the champions winning their opening three games without conceding control.

Reminder: Here we go! AC Milan midfielder seals sensational Ligue 1 return on deadline day.
