The man who built two Scudetto-winning Inter sides is leaving San Siro, and England is already calling.

Details: According to Fabrizio Romano, sporting director Piero Ausilio will leave Inter on mutual agreement, with the decision made and confirmed. Premier League clubs are already keen and could be his next destination. The news accelerates reports from the morning that his contract, running to June 2027, would not be renewed.

Ausilio, 51, joined Inter in 1998 and worked his way from the academy to the sporting director's chair in February 2014, spending 28 years inside the club. His reign delivered the 2024 and 2026 Serie A titles, a Champions League final in 2023 and the 2024 Globe Soccer award for Best Sporting Director. His trademark deals read like a modern Inter hall of fame: Lautaro Martinez, Achraf Hakimi, Marcus Thuram snatched from under Milan's nose, and André Onana signed for free then sold for €55 million a year later. Last year he turned down a lucrative offer from Al-Hilal out of loyalty, which makes this exit all the more surprising. With the English window only just closed, his availability could trigger a fascinating move for one of the Premier League's ambitious projects.

It's worth noting that Ausilio himself named Kovacic, Brozovic and Onana as his best signings, a trio bought for a fraction of what they later commanded on the market.

Reminder: Here we go! AC Milan midfielder seals sensational Ligue 1 return on deadline day.
