Mohamed Salah makes World Cup history
Scorer and provider against New Zealand
The Egyptian striker was once again in the spotlight during Egypt’s second match in the group stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Mohamed Salah shone in the finest possible way against New Zealand on 22 June in Group G. The Egyptian ‘Pharaoh’ scored a goal in the 67th minute before providing an assist for Trézéguet in the 82nd minute to seal Egypt’s 3–1 victory.
This is an unprecedented achievement for an African player aged 34 years and 7 days. With these two contributions, Mohamed Salah has become the oldest African player to achieve such a feat in a single World Cup match since 1966.
