Egypt secure their first-ever World Cup win
The Pharaohs beat New Zealand
Mohamed Salah and his team-mates have ended a 92-year wait.
Egypt beat New Zealand 3–1 on Sunday 21 June during the second matchday of the group stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. A victory that goes down in the annals of African football.
Since their very first World Cup appearance in 1934, Egypt had never won a single match in the competition. But Hossam Hassan’s side have now ended that curse by beating New Zealand at the World Cup, which is being held in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
