Saudi club Al-Ittihad was among the few teams willing to make a record-breaking financial offer to one of the greatest footballers of our era before Messi continued his career in the United States.
Details: In an interview with NIBC, Al-Ittihad president Anmar Al-Haili revealed that when Lionel Messi was playing for PSG, the club offered him a contract. According to him, the proposed amount was €1.4 billion per year, but the Argentine forward turned down the offer.
“The player refused because his family wanted to move to America. It's astonishing that he was able to turn down such a massive sum for the sake of his family. He chose family, and he didn't hesitate to say no. We respect that, because family is more important than money,” Al-Haili emphasized.
It should be noted that Messi then chose to join the MLS club Inter Miami, where he went on to become an MLS champion.
Recall: Liverpool is considering a short-term loan move for Lionel Messi.
